Women's Adirondack Autumn Paddle
St.
Regis Canoe Wilderness
|
Solo
canoeing, waterside camping, wildlife viewing, optional hiking
Friday
- Sunday, Sept 19-21, 2008
Quiet
times are here again... The summer crowds have returned home,
the kids are back in school and the more scenic waters are waiting for
us!
Join us for a few days in the St. Regis Canoe area. We've got
the perfect boats for exploring this area, the lightest boats in the
woods actually at 12-16 lbs. They are fun to paddle and easy to
portage... making the many ponds in this area much easier to
explore!
We will meet in Tupper Lake (at our Raquette River
location) Friday morning (9:00 AM) to pack for the trip. Hornbeck
solo canoes, paddling gear, light weight camping gear (*excluding sleeping bag),
cooking gear and meals (Fri. lunch - Sun. lunch) are provided for
this guided outing. Anyone interested in arriving Thursday evening
or staying Sunday night after the paddle are welcome to do so.
Just let us know so we can send you more information regarding
such. Not familiar with Hornbeck solo canoes? Visit Hornbeck
Boats online.
After packing up Friday, we'll head to the put-in (about a 20-25 minute
ride.) Our camping destination is St. Regis Pond, a very
beautiful and remote location. We will be pond hopping
throughout the weekend. The loons should be quite active and
rather entertaining. You'll want a pair of binoculars and a camera for sure!!
There's plenty of places to explore in this area... both by water and
land routes. Short portages connect 8 glacial ponds between the
Fish Hatchery in Lake Clear, NY and Upper St. Regis Lake at the base
of St. Regis Mountain. We expect to arrive back at our
home-base location in Tupper Lake mid-afternoon on Sunday. Those
interested in spending the night camping at our place on the Raquette
River are welcome. Contact
us for more information about this opportunity.
Cost:
$415/person
Group minimum: 3 Group maximum: 6
NOTE: Our tents are
roomy & comfortable for two people. Solo tents may be
available for an extra charge. Contact us for availability.
*Sleeping bags can be provided, if necessary, for an additional fee.
Driving
directions to our Raquette River location,
a recommended clothing & gear list,
a medical form and release of liability waiver, along with other
information to help you prepare for the weekend will be provided once
payment is received. A reservation is confirmed when payment is
received.
Please
register prior to August 22, 2008. Please note that a minimum of 3 guest is required to

Adirondack
Fall Backpack for Women
Lake Colden in the heart of the High Peaks
|
Leisurely
backpacking, camping, day hiking & time for exploration in one of
the most scenic destinations in the Adirondacks
Friday -
Sunday, October 3-5, 2008
This
leisurely paced trek will take us to one of the most scenic
destinations in the Adirondack High Peaks Wilderness, an historical
area offering opportunities to view events of "days gone
by." Some of what we will observe was created by man with
the majority, the result of nature. The terrain for this trip
will be gentle to moderate with some sections of trail being a bit
"rugged" (muddy and erosion exposed rocks).
This
trip is appropriate for beginner's as well as those with backpacking
experience. The actual backpack distance will be 4.5-5.5 miles
on Day 1. We will set up a base camp for 2 nights. On Day 2 we
will explore the area with shorter day hikes. Some of the
attractions in this area include beautiful mountain lakes with
incredible vistas, waterfalls, large pools, a flume, a gorge, various
dams, Henderson Monument and a beautiful mountain pass. Plan to
pack out on Day 3.
We will meet in Newcomb Friday morning (9:30 AM) to pack for the trip. We'll car
pool to the trailhead at Upper Works (near Newcomb, NY)
approximately an hour drive once we're set to go. Camping gear
(*excluding sleeping bag),
cooking gear and meals (Tues. lunch - Thurs. lunch) are provided for
this guided excursion. Anyone interested in arriving Monday evening
or staying Thursday night after the hike are welcome to do so.
Just let us know so we can send you more information regarding
such. Contact us for
more information about this opportunity.
Cost:
$365/person

Adirondack Spring Backpack for Women
Raquette
Falls & Dawson Pond
|
Backpacking,
waterside camping, waterfalls, day hiking, spring wildlife
Friday-Sunday,
May 2009
Join us for an early spring backpack trip to the Raquette Falls area
nearby Tupper Lake. This will be a moderate, leisurely paced trip
with plenty of time to stop & smell the roses... okay, maybe the
trillium. No mountains to climb on this trip, just a hill or two
to walk up as we get nearer the falls. This trail is generally dry
and "snowless" this time of year and with the higher water
levels that usually accompany spring in the Adirondacks, this is a good
time to visit the falls. The leaves should be just coming out and
a variety of spring flowers should line the trail. Do not expect
to see many people in this area at this time of year. The past few
years we have only seen a ranger or two doing trail work.
We provide
camping gear (*excluding sleeping bag),
cooking gear, meals & snacks (Fri. lunch through Sun. lunch) for
this guided outing. The plan is to meet in Tupper Lake (at our Raquette River
location) at 9:00 AM Friday morning for a quick orientation, gear check,
distribution of group gear & some tips for packing. Then we'll head
off to the trailhead in the nearby Coreys area (10 minute drive). We'll hike in
approximately 4 miles with hopes of camping on a beautiful hemlock bank
overlooking the Raquette River. We will set up camp for 2 nights.
Saturday we will hike to Raquette Falls exploring the area along the
river between the Upper & Lower Falls. Then we'll head off to
Dawson Pond, a little gem in itself. Sunday we will enjoy breakfast and the quietness of the
river before packing up to pack out to our vehicles. Expect to
depart from our home-base location mid-afternoon on Sunday. Contact
us for more information about this opportunity.
Cost:
$365/person
Group minimum: 3 Group maximum: 6
NOTE: Our tents are
roomy & comfortable for two people. Solo tents may be
available for an extra charge. Contact us for availability.
*Sleeping bags can be provided, if necessary, for an additional fee.
