2008 SPRING BACKPACK IN SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA
Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area & Grayson Highlands State Park

April 20-26, 2008

Experience 5 days of spring hiking and backpacking along the Appalachian Trail in southwest Virginia. We will trek through Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area and Grayson Highlands State Park. Our adventure will begin and end in Damascus, "the friendliest town on the Appalachian Trail." Mt. Rogers is the highest point in Virginia (5,729'). Grayson Highlands has been compared to the Montana grasslands by many, with grassy balds speckled with magnificent rock outcroppings and plenty of blue sky. There are also several herds of federal wild ponies in this section, contributing to the uniqueness of this trip. Trip length is about 35-40 miles and offers miles of spectacular views.

Should be an experienced backpacker in good physical condition. Minimum age 25. Trip is limited to 6 maximum group size. Estimated cost: ~$995 USD per person plus transportation to Damascus, VA. Package includes 2-nights lodging based on double occupancy, all meals, fees, park permits and camping gear.  Singles accommodations may be available for an additional $250 USD per person.  Click here for reservation information.
