Water Trips & Nature Excursions
Saranac Lake Wild Forest - Ten Rivers Region - St. Regis Wilderness Area
Adirondack
Connections is based in the heart of some of the most pristine waters in the
Adirondacks. We've scheduled a variety of quiet water paddling trips
in
some of our favorite areas. You'll want a camera and binoculars
with you for these trips! Each trip allows opportunities to view a variety of
wildlife and seasonal flora as well as beautiful scenery. We invite
you to experience the peacefulness, freedom and joy associated with
paddling a solo canoe.
We provide the
lightest boats in the woods for
exploring the more remote and scenic waters of the Adirondacks. Our
boats
are Hornbeck double paddle solo canoes and weigh
<12 to 16 lbs. They combine the best features of
a canoe and a kayak in addition to
being very light and durable. Canoes are roomy, gear haulers, easy to get in
and out of and convenient to carry. Kayaks are fast, maneuverable,
comfortable, seaworthy and efficient to paddle. Hornbeck solo canoes, paddling gear
and personal floatation devices (PFD) are provided for our quiet water
excursions.
Call
Adirondack Connections at (518) 359-7536 for more
information on any of these trips. Overnight accommodations
may be arranged for those who would like to arrive the night before
or stay over after the paddle.
ABOUT
OUR POND HOPPING TRIPS:
Treat yourself to a pond
hopping experience this season! These are our most
popular paddle excursions with a new area being explored each
trip. We favor the peacefulness and beauty of the small ponds,
lakes, rivers and streams in the northern Adirondacks, known as a
"Paddlers' Paradise." The majority of these trips are
done as loops. We provide Hornbeck solo canoes,
paddling gear, small dry bags and day packs for these trips.
You are welcome to bring your own PFD and packs if you prefer.
The paddling pace is leisurely, allowing for exploration and enjoyment
of some very scenic areas. Excursions generally last 4-6 hours
and are dependent upon on the trip location, group interest and
weather conditions. The lightweight boats we provide for these
trips are perfect for the short portages that often
connect the ponds and streams in
the areas we will explore. They are a pleasure to
paddle as well. A variety of wildlife is often
observed on
these outings. Trip location and
directions to the meeting point are provided for each trip once a spot
is reserved, as well as a recommended list of clothing
& gear. Payment is required to
reserve space on a trip. Plan to bring your own lunch,
snacks & beverages. Advance reservations are highly
recommended and are necessary to confirmation a trip. Last
minute inquiries are welcome as
well.
Pond Hopping
& Day Trip Rates:
$100.00/person (Hornbeck solo canoe, paddling gear, PFD, dry sack & day
pack is provided)
$85.00/person
(For those with their own boat, paddle,

NOTE: A

ABOUT
THESE PADDLE & CAMPING EXPERIENCES:
We invite you to join us for a couple of nights
in remote settings in the St. Regis Wilderness, William C. Whitney Wilderness or Bog River-Lows Lake
Wilderness area. These areas are highly favored by paddlers who
return year after year. These are planned as weekday trips for a
more peaceful experience. Weekends can be quite busy as people
flee to the great outdoors on their days off. We plan to spend the daylight hours enjoying nature's finest
while experiencing the peacefulness of the
wilderness... a place where time is truly yours to enjoy. Twilight
by the water tends to be rather relaxing, allowing us to wind down from
the activities of the day and fill ourselves with the quiet of
the evening and call of the loons. It's a serene and beautiful
time of day. Sunsets across the water are astounding, as are
sunrises for those who rise in time to watch them. If conditions are right, the mystique of the
rising sun over
mist
covered waters is a visualization and feeling that will remain with you
forever!
The St. Regis Pond trip is ideal for anyone
interested in spending a quiet night on a scenic glacial pond in the
St. Regis Wilderness before summer is in full swing. We plan to camp on
St. Regis Pond and "pond hop" to Upper St. Regis Lake
exploring Green, Little Long, Bear & Bog Ponds along the way. These
ponds sit at the base of St. Regis Mountain, a wonderful backdrop for
this area. These
ponds are frequented by Common Loons.
The Bog River & Lows
Lake area offers a variety of paddling and hiking options. The
many islands, sandy beaches and floating bogs make this a unique area
to explore. Side trips include an optional short hike to an open
ridge overlooking the Bog River area. The ridge offers a spectacular
view on a clear day. A day paddle to Bog Lake & Clear Ponds is
also planned.
The Lake Lila trip allows exploration of
Shingle Shanty Brook, Harrington & Rainer Brooks and the Beaver River as well as optional
hiking. Swimming is quite popular at the many sandy beaches along
the shore, and we are told the fishing is good also. A short hike
to the open rock
ledge on Frederica Mt. affords beautiful lake and mountain views on a clear day.
Adirondack
Connections provides Hornbeck lightweight solo canoes for this
paddle experience. They are the lightest boats around and are
perfect for any portages along the way. Our guests often comment about the peaceful, relaxing paddling
experience these boats allow. Many like the freedom they have to
explore on their own when out with other people. They truly are a
pleasure to paddle! Adirondack Connections also provides the paddling and camping gear
necessary for an enjoyable, scenic & comfortable adventure.

LOON & WILD LIFE
EXCURSIONS
OVERNIGHT CAMPING TRIPS
|
ABOUT
OUR OVERNIGHT LOON EXCURSIONS:
The Common Loon inhabits many of the quiet waters
in our area and are an attraction
for many paddlers. We invite you to join us for an overnight loon
experience. Spend the daylight hours watching them fish and care
for their young. Spend the twilight hours listening to the noises of
the evening and the loon's distinct wilderness calls. Loons tend to be more vocal
during the evening and early morning hours. Learn about their
different vocalizations and what they mean (tremolo, yodel, wail &
hoot). There's a
different sort of peacefulness experienced during the evening and early
morning hours by the
water in the wilderness. Sunsets across the water are astounding
and if you're fortunate, the mystique of the sun rising over a mist
covered pond is a visualization and feeling that will remain with you
forever.
Adirondack
Connections is pleased to be able to offer these unique paddling
experiences. We are the only Adirondack guide service that uses
Hornbeck
lightweight solo canoes for our paddling trips. Solo boats seem
to be preferred by folks who enjoy the freedom to explore that which they are interested
in. Being in your own boat often allows for a more peaceful & relaxing paddling
experience. Adirondack Connections has a fleet of Hornbeck
canoes as well as the paddling and camping gear
necessary for an enjoyable, scenic & comfortable adventure.

BOG RIVER SCENIC PADDLE
OVERNIGHT CAMPING TRIPS CAN
BE ARRANGED
|
SEPTEMBER
6 - OCTOBER 15
Adirondack
Connections is based in the heart of some of the most pristine waters in the
Adirondacks. We schedule a variety of quiet water paddling trips
to some of our favorite areas throughout the season. We prefer to
visit the Bog River area in the "off season." It is a
very popular area and parking is limited. Still, this is one of
our favorite paddling trips which offers much variety in a relatively
short distance. Don't forget your camera and a pair of binoculars!
This trip allows opportunities for viewing loons and eagles and the
scenery is outstanding! We invite
you to experience the peacefulness, freedom and joy associated with
paddling a solo canoe.
We provide the
lightest boats in the woods for
exploring the more remote and scenic waters of the Adirondacks. Our
boats
are “double paddle canoes” that combine the best features of
a canoe and a kayak. Canoes are roomy, gear haulers, easy to get in
and out of and convenient to carry. Kayaks are fast, maneuverable,
comfortable, seaworthy and efficient to paddle. The canoes we
provide combine all of these features in addition to
being very light and durable. Our boats weigh
<12 to 19 lbs. We provide a solo canoe, paddling gear
and a personal floatation device (PFD) for our quiet water
excursions.
Call
Adirondack Connections at (518) 359-7536 for more
information on any of these trips. Overnight accommodations
may be arranged for those who would like to arrive the night before
or stay over after the paddle.

Join
us on one of these scheduled paddle trips OR bring
your own boat and determine a time
that fits your schedule better. Contact
us for more information OR to make arrangements for your own trip.
Experience the peacefulness and unencumbered
scenic waters of the Bog River and Lows Lake area before or after the commotion of the summer.
This area experiences a heavy volume of paddlers during July &
August. This paddle will take us from Lows Lower Dam
through Bog River Flow
with one short portage around Lows Upper Dam. The river flows along wooded banks,
low marshy shores, cliffs, around a floating bog and eskers.
Wildlife in the area include loons, eagles, herons, beaver and a variety
of bog flora. The
round-trip distance for this trip will be 6 to 10 miles depending on the
desires of the group. There is the option of a short hike to the prominent ridge north
of Hitchins Pond, which offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area
and High Peaks.
We provide canoes, paddling gear and PFDs for our scheduled paddle trips
listed above. For trips booked at other times you may need to
provide a canoe or kayak, paddle and floatation device.
Or consider trying one of our lightweight solo canoes for a different paddling experience, provided they are
available at the time of your trip. Canoes or kayaks may be
provided for an additional fee and will
be waiting for you at the put-in point if you make arrangements with
Adirondack Connections (518-359-7536) when you book your trip.
The “meeting point”:
Plan to meet at the beginning of the Horseshoe Lake Rd. (NY 421), 6.4 miles S of the
Tupper Lake DEC Boat Launch. NY 421 turns W here off NY 30. There is a
pullout on the LEFT side of the road. There is a gate at this point as
well. We will meet at the pullout and car pool to the "put-in
point" to alleviate potential parking issues at the Bog River
access at Low's Lower Dam.
The “put-in point”:
From the "meeting point" described above, proceed about 6 miles to the end of the pavement. Turn left on a dirt road and
drive 0.7 mi to the parking area near the dam.
Bog River Scenic Paddle Trip Prices:

hr. guided excursion, Hornbeck solo canoe, paddling gear, PFD & day pack)

AM)
Pick
a day that fits your schedule.
Bring your own boat or use one of ours. Contact
us for more information OR to make arrangements for this trip.
Absorb
the serenity and beauty of a leisurely fall paddle up the scenic
Raquette River. This is an especially
pleasant paddle with outstanding fall foliage reflections on a
placid day. The put-in is at Axton Landing. From here the river meanders
through a wilderness area where ducks, mergansers, king fishers, herons
and aquatic vegetation can be seen. The shallower waters and sandy river
bottom with flowing grasses make this section of the Raquette River
unique. Upon reaching the pull out below the boulder garden at the DEC
Interior Outpost at Raquette Falls, we will hike a short distance to view the Lower Falls,
which plunges through a gorge. The river
pitches 80 feet over a highly scenic, rocky bed in this area. The paddle
is a 12.0-mile round-trip.
The “put-in point”:
We will meet
at the beginning of the Coreys Rd. off NY 3, 12.7 miles W of the traffic
light in the center of Saranac Lake Village and 2.7 miles E of the
junction of NY 3 and NY 30, east of Tupper Lake. There is a DEC sign
reading “High Peaks via Duck Hole” marking Coreys Rd. Park along the
side of Coreys Rd. We will drive to the put-in together.
