Quiet
Water Trips & Nature Excursions
Bog River - Hitchens Pond - Bog River Flow
Adirondack
Connections is based in the heart of some of the most pristine waters in the
Adirondacks. We schedule a variety of quiet water paddling trips
to some of our favorite areas throughout the season. We prefer to
visit the Bog River area in the "off season." It is a
very popular area and parking is limited. Still, this is one of
our favorite paddling trips which offers much variety in a relatively
short distance. Don't forget your camera and a pair of binoculars!
This trip allows opportunities for viewing loons and eagles and the
scenery is outstanding! We invite
you to experience the peacefulness, freedom and joy associated with
paddling a solo canoe.
We provide the
lightest boats in the woods for
exploring the more remote and scenic waters of the Adirondacks. Our
boats
are “double paddle canoes” that combine the best features of
a canoe and a kayak. Canoes are roomy, gear haulers, easy to get in
and out of and convenient to carry. Kayaks are fast, maneuverable,
comfortable, seaworthy and efficient to paddle. The canoes we
provide combine all of these features in addition to
being very light and durable. Our boats weigh
<12 to 19 lbs. We provide a solo canoe, paddling gear
and a personal floatation device (PFD) for our quiet water
excursions.
Call
Adirondack Connections at (518) 359-7536 for more
information on any of these trips. Overnight accommodations
may be arranged for those who would like to arrive the night before
or stay over after the paddle.

Join
us on one of these scheduled paddle trips OR bring
your own boat and determine a time
that fits your schedule better. Contact
us for more information OR to make arrangements for your own trip.
Experience the peacefulness and unencumbered
scenic waters of the Bog River and Lows Lake area before or after the commotion of the summer.
This area experiences a heavy volume of paddlers during July &
August. This paddle will take us from Lows Lower Dam
through Bog River Flow
with one short portage around Lows Upper Dam. The river flows along wooded banks,
low marshy shores, cliffs, around a floating bog and eskers.
Wildlife in the area include loons, eagles, herons, beaver and a variety
of bog flora. The
round-trip distance for this trip will be 6 to 10 miles depending on the
desires of the group. There is the option of a short hike to the prominent ridge north
of Hitchins Pond, which offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area
and High Peaks.
We provide canoes, paddling gear and PFDs for our scheduled paddle trips
listed above. For trips booked at other times you may need to
provide a canoe or kayak, paddle and floatation device.
Or consider trying one of our lightweight solo canoes for a different paddling experience, provided they are
available at the time of your trip. Canoes or kayaks may be
provided for an additional fee and will
be waiting for you at the put-in point if you make arrangements with
Adirondack Connections (518-359-7536) when you book your trip.
The “meeting point”:
Plan to meet at the beginning of the Horseshoe Lake Rd. (NY 421), 6.4 miles S of the
Tupper Lake DEC Boat Launch. NY 421 turns W here off NY 30. There is a
pullout on the LEFT side of the road. There is a gate at this point as
well. We will meet at the pullout and car pool to the "put-in
point" to alleviate potential parking issues at the Bog River
access at Low's Lower Dam.
The “put-in point”:
From the "meeting point" described above, proceed about 6 miles to the end of the pavement. Turn left on a dirt road and
drive 0.7 mi to the parking area near the dam.
Bog River Scenic Paddle Trip Prices:
$100/person* (includes 4+
hr. guided excursion, Hornbeck solo canoe, paddling gear, PFD & day pack)
* A group minimum of 3 people is necessary for this
rate.
Expect
to meet at the "meeting point" at 9:45 AM. Driving directions
and a list of what to bring with you will
be provided
when registration is received.
