Backpacking Trips in the Adirondacks

Northville-Placid Trail

The Northville-Placid Trail (NPT) is one of the premiere long trails in the Northeast. The trail is approximately 135 miles and traverses the heart of the Adirondacks from the village of Northville in Fulton County in the south to the village of Lake Placid in Essex County in the north. Along the way it passes through or near the communities of Piseco, Indian Lake, Blue Mountain Lake and Long Lake. Conditions along the trail vary greatly. One must be prepared for mud, trail relocation (permanent and temporary), bridges out, beaver activity, miserable weather, biting insects, missing trail markers, and overgrown trails. The trail passes through what many consider the wildest and most remote parts of the Adirondack Park, notably the high plateau that encompasses the Spruce, West Canada, and Cedar lakes area, along with that of the Cold River. The highest point the NPT reaches (3008 ft) is at the crest of the ridge to the E of Blue Mt. and of Tirrell Pond.

We have broken the trail into 4 sections and have set aside dates for 3-4 day backpack trips. Any section can be done during the NPT Section Trip dates. Let us know what your preference is and we will take care of the details including shuttle service for these guided point-to-point treks. The scheduled 2017 NPT Section Trip dates are:
May 3-6, 2017
June 21-24, 2017
Sept 27-30, 2017
Oct 12-15, 2017

We will gladly accommodate "private" trip requests as we are able. If you are interested in the possibility of a trip during a different time frame or exploring others destinations, please submit a Plan A Trip form. Be aware that the trip dates above may disappear as "something else" comes up if no reservations have been made for a particular trip. We encourage you to make reservations well in advance for any trips you are interested in. Space is generally limited to 4 people per trip. Please note that a minimum of 2 people are necessary to confirm these trips.

We encourage folks to arrive the afternoon prior to the trip to pack so we can get an earlier start in the morning. We are able to offer a bed & breakfast package to those who make overnight accommodations through us for the night prior and/or the evening we come off the trail. We have an arrangement with The Timber Lodge located a mile from our home base. Please let us know in advance if you would like help with overnight accommodations.
