HURRICANE MT. HIKE

Saturday, June 7th  (9:30 AM)

Experience the beauty of the spring season on this guided hike to the fire tower and summit of Hurricane Mt.  (elev. 3694’) before bug season arrives.  Hurricane Mt. offers one of the best full-circle panorama views the Adirondacks have to offer. The climb to this summit is moderate for a fairly long ascent distance. This is a 5.3-mile round-trip. 

Cost: $60/person

Bring a lunch, water, day pack, hiking boots, rain gear, warm shirt, extra socks & appropriate clothing for the day.  

Meet your guide at the trailhead at 9:30 AM.

Trailhead:  The trailhead is on the N side of Rt 9N at the height of land 3.6 miles E of the junctions of Rtes. 9N and 73 between Keene and Keene Valley and 6.8 miles W of the junction of Rtes. 9N and 9 at the S end of the village of Elizabethtown.  Parking is along the wide shoulder of the road or in the small parking area across from the trailhead.  




DEER BROOK GORGE & SNOW MT.
HIKE

Saturday, June 28th  (9:30 AM)

Join us for this very scenic trek encompassing a variety of terrain and forest features in the Keene Valley area.  The route will take you through a beautiful gorge lined with a multitude of small falls and cascades.  There is a cave at the base of the vertical cliffs that line one side of the gorge and a waterfall a bit further up Deer Brook that is over 80 feet high.  You’ll climb some to get to the overlooks on Snow Mt., a smaller Adirondack peak offering splendid views of many surrounding High Peaks.  The descent will take you down Flume Brook, to a trailhead located a mile from the starting point on RT 73.  Cars will be shuffled prior to the hike to avoid having to walk a mile along RT 73 between the start and finish points.  This is a very scenic, moderate 4.2-mile trip with a 0.5 mile section that is more difficult.

Meet your guide at the trailhead at 9:30 AM. 

Trailhead:  Trailhead parking is on RT 73 just south of Keene Valley (0.4 mile S of High Peaks sign in the center of the village.)  We will shuttle hikers/vehicles to the Deer Brook Trailhead located on the southbound lane of Rt 73, 1.9 miles S of the High Peaks trail sign in Keene Valley. The trailhead sign is not easily visible. Just south of the trailhead, the road crosses a steel-sided bridge over the Ausable River. Parking is along the roadside at this location.




CRANE MT.
HIKE

Saturday, July 5th  (9:00 AM)

This is a challenging 4.8-mile leisurely paced loop hike to the open summit ridge of an interesting peak in the southeastern AdirondacksPlan to spend time exploring and enjoying the many vistas along the way! Crane Mt. was shaped by a glacier which left a gentler slope on its northwest slop but scraped smooth the cliffs on the southeastern flanks.  The terrain is steep at times but well worth the effort.  There are magnificent views in all directions along the route.  From the ridge the trail descends to the shore of Crane Mt. Pond, a little gem in itself nestled on a rock shelf below the summit.  There is a natural stone bridge and small cave to explore near the end of this loop.

Meet your guide at the Community Center by the light in Wevertown at 9:00 AM. This is the junction of RT 8 & RT 28.

Trailhead:  We will drive the nearly 12 miles to the trailhead together.




PITCHOFF RIDGE
HIKE

Saturday, July 12th  (8:30 AM)

This moderate 5.2-mile leisurely paced hike is a traverse over the open ridge that lies north of Cascade Mt. outside of Lake Placid.  Pitchoff Ridge is actually a series of small summits connected by a rather varied and exciting trail.  This hike offers exceptional views of the High Peaks, Cascade Lakes, Sentinel and Jay Mountain Ranges as it meanders from summit to summit.  There will be plenty of time to explore and enjoy the views!

Meet your guide at the “ Carriage Monument ” on the NW side of Rt. 73 below the Cascade Mt. trailhead at 8:30 AM.

Trailhead:  The Cascade Mt. trailhead parking area is on RT 73 about 4.5 miles east of Adirondack Loj Rd., if coming through Lake Placid and 6.8 miles from Keene.




NOONMARK MT. LOOP HIKE

Saturday, August 2nd  (8:30 AM) 

Enjoy the quietness of the woods and breathtaking Adirondack beauty on a guided hike 4.8 mile loop to the bare-rock pinnacle of Noonmark Mt. (elev. 3556’). Adirondack Connections affiliate guide, Norman Swift, invites you to join him on a moderate 4.8-mile loop hike over this bare-rock pinnacle. Noonmark's summit offers a breathtaking panorama encompassing most of the major High Peaks.  Don't forget your camera and plan to spend some time enjoying this summit!

GIANT'S NUBBLE LOOP HIKE

Saturday, August 16th  (9:00 AM)

Join us for an interesting guided loop hike, which will take in Roaring Brook Falls, the Giant’s Washbowl and the Nubble in the Keene Valley region.  A small, rocky knob known as Giant’s Nubble (elev. 2760’) offers some interesting views of the slides on Giant Mt.  This is a moderate 4.7-mile loop with a few places where the trail climbs steeply. Plan to spend some time on this summit!

Trailhead:  Roaring Brook trailhead starts at a small parking area on the R of Rt. 73, 3.3 miles S of the High Peaks sign in Keene Valley (~0.5 miles beyond St. Hubert’s – Ausable Club Rd.) and 5.6 miles N of the spaghetti intersection Rtes. 9 and 73 in Underwood  




CATAMOUNT MT. HIKE

Saturday, August 30th  (9:30 AM) 

Enjoy one of the most spectacular peaks in the Northeast Adirondacks on a guided mid-week hike up Catamount Mt.   Catamount Mt. (elev. 3168’) offers unobstructed views in all directions from its open rocky summit.  Whiteface Mt., Taylor Pond and Silver Lake dominate the panorama.  The climb includes a nearly vertical chimney in the rock on the scramble up to the summit.  This is a moderate 3.6-mile round-trip.

Trailhead:  From Rt. 86 in the center of Wilmington, go up the Whiteface Memorial Highway for 2.8 miles and turn R on the Franklin Falls Rd., which is followed for 3.3 miles to another R turn.  Follow this road 0.8 miles and turn R again onto Forestdale Rd., from which the mountain is soon visible.  At 2.2 miles down this road, on a short straight stretch at the bottom of a small hill, there is a vague path on the left marked by tape or blazes.  (This point is also on your right 6.2 miles S of the Silver Lake Rd. running from Ausable Forks)  Parking is along the side of the road.   

    


ST. REGIS MT. HIKE 

Saturday, September 20th  (9:30 AM)

The fall foliage and absence of bugs makes this an enjoyable trek through a mostly open forest. The destination is the open-rock summit of St. Regis Mt. (elev. 2865’) which offers unrestricted views in all directions.  A fire tower still stands on this summit.  The climb is rated as moderate, except for the final ascent to the summit. This is a 6.8 mile round-trip.

Trailhead:  Parking area is on the left side of the Keese Mills Rd.  From Lake Clear Jct on NY 30 drive N 7.3 miles to Paul Smith's College (will be on left).  Turn left on Keese Mills Rd. and drive ~2.4 miles to parking area on left side of road.     

     


ROOSTER COMB LOOP
HIKE

Enjoy the splendor of autumn color in the Adirondacks!  Join us for a trek to the crest of a craggy little peak in the Keene Valley area that offers superb views from the broad summit ledge a few yards from the summit.  Barara McMartin described such as “a crescent of crags 250’ high, topped by a half acre of open rock with a view that will make you want to jump and shout.”  This is a moderate 5.3-mile loop hike.  Plan to spend some time on this summit!
