We invite you to join us for a
4-day
autumn backpack trip through
the heart of the West Canada Lakes Wilderness. This
West Canada Lakes backpack trip is a 24 mile loop encompassing a
circle of the highest of lakes in the Adirondacks, all
quite attractive and remote. There are remnants of an era gone by to
enjoy along the way. Approximately 7 miles of this loop
follows the Northville-Placid trail. This is a beautiful area
(one of those that you wish others didn't know about) to spend a few
days and hopefully we will have it to ourselves this time of year.
This adventure trek is planned as a leisurely
paced backpack covering the following distances each day (Day 1 -
5.2 mi, Day 2 - 7.0 mi, Day 3 - 5.8 mi, Day 4 - 5.2 mi.) If
all goes as expected, each night will be spent camping at a
waterside campsite with side hikes for those who would like to
explore a bit more once camp is set up.
The plan is to leave from our home-base in Tupper Lake at 8:30 AM on
Monday.
We have a camper available at our home base on the Raquette River
for folks who would like to arrive Sunday PM
for a quick orientation, gear check, distribution of group gear &
some tips for packing. We'll finish packing
Monday morning before departing for the trailhead near Sled Harbor
located southwest of Indian Lake & northwest of Speculator, NY (approximately
an 1 hr. 45 min. drive). The plan is to car pool as much as
possible. Anyone who will be providing their own camping gear
and meals can meet us at the trailhead (or at another point agreed
upon) at a time we will determine.
We provide lightweight camping gear (*excluding sleeping bag),
cooking gear, meals & snacks (Mon. lunch through Thurs. lunch) for
this guided outing. Expect to share a tent with another
person, unless a solo tent is requested. Our tents are roomy 3
person tents with 2 doors. Each occupant has a door for
convenient entry & exit. Solo tent request are limited and are
an additional $50. Breakfast will be available for those who
plan to arrive in Tupper Lake on Sunday evening. We expect to
return to our home based by late afternoon on Thursday.
Anyone interested in arriving Sunday evening, or staying Thursday
night after the backpack, is welcome to do so.
Overnight camper and/or tent
accommodations are included in this package at our meeting location
for our guests who desire such the night before or the night we
return from this trip. Motel lodging is also available (for an
additional cost) and located 2-5 miles from our summer base location
on the Raquette River. Just let us know
what you prefer so we can send you more information regarding such.
Reservations are required for this trip, preferably a month
or more prior.
Last minute inquires are welcome. Contact us for more
information about this opportunity.
NOTE:
* Sleeping bags can be provided, if necessary, for an additional fee.
Solo tent requests may be available for an additional $30. Solo
tents are also available to accommodate gender differences for no
additional fee. Group size is limited to 4 people OR 2-3 tents.
Cost: $580/person based on double tent occupancy. Contact us for
the cost for if you are interested in joining us and would like to
provide your own camping gear and meals.
Driving directions to our meeting location, a recommended
clothing & gear list, a medical form and release of
liability waiver, along with other information to help you
prepare for this 4-day experience will be provided once
the trip deposit is received. Reservations are confirmed
when payment is received.
We
hope you'll join us for this delightful trip to a truly beautiful area!
